The musical heritage and traditions of the West Galleries in Dorset churches date back to the 18th century. This talk, exploring the history, music and instruments of quires will include live music and opportunities to hear different settings to some familiar carols. Dorset writer, Thomas Hardy’s own family’s involvement and his use of quires in his prose and poetry will be considered.

About the speaker: Dr. Frances Eustace is an expert on historical musical instruments and a leading performer in the world of early music and historical dance. She will be joined by some local friends to sing and play.
