Tithe Barns

The Jim Gibb Memorial Lecture

Saturday 19th April 2025

Speaker – Joseph Rogers

Joseph Rogers will explore the history of tithe barns – important historic buildings dotted across the British and European landscape. He will discuss the original purpose of these iconic structures, give a short overview of their architectural features, and show how their longevity is partly owed to adaptation for contemporary uses. The talk will touch on examples of local tithe barns, including those at Wyke, near Bradford Abbas.
